Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the new base variant of the Scorpio SUV. The Mahindra Scorpio S3+ base variant is priced at Rs. 11.70 lakh ex-showroom (Mumbai). The new variant is slotted below the S5 trim, which is priced at Rs. 12.25 lakh ex-showroom (Mumbai).
The Scorpio S3+ variant comes equipped with features such as black bumpers, power windows, vinyl seat upholstery, 17-inch steel wheels and follow-me-home headlights. The safety features of the base variant of the Scorpio include dual airbags, high-speed alert system, ABS with EBD and seat belt reminders.
When compared to the S5 trim, the base variant misses out on features such as black steel wheels with wheel caps, foot-steps, fabric seat upholstery, auto door-lock and bigger bottle and cup holders. The S3+ trim is offered in 7-seater and 9-seater configuration.
Powering the Scorpio S3+ variant is the same 2.2-litre diesel engine. But the engine is detuned to produce 120bhp and 280Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other variants of the Scorpio, the same engine produces 140bhp and 319Nm of torque. Also, the engine is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Mahindra is also developing the new-gen Scorpio, which is expected to hit the roads this year. Apart from that, the Indian automaker is also working on the new XUV500.
