Ford India is all set to introduce a new variant of the EcoSport compact SUV. A report from Autocar India states that Ford is gearing up for the introduction of the new EcoSport SE variant in the Indian market. The prominent highlight of the Ford EcoSport SE will be the redesigned tailgate.

Yes, the new variant of the Ford EcoSport will feature a new tailgate design similar to the international-spec model. What it means is the new EcoSport SE will not come with a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate. Instead, the tailgate will feature a new design with the registration plate in the centre of the tailgate.

The absence of a tailgate-mounted spare wheel will render a new look to the EcoSport. But looking at the other side of the coin, the EcoSport SE will not come with a factory-fitted spare wheel. As per the rules laid down by MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways), all passenger vehicles (up to 9-seater) should be sold with a spare wheel. But there’s an exception.

The EcoSport SE will come with features such as TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System), and tubeless tyres and a puncture repair kit to adhere to the rules. The Ford EcoSport SE variant will be slotted below the Titanium and Sport variants.

The new variant of the EcoSport is expected to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options, similar to the currently sold model. The EcoSport SE variant will draw power from 1.5-litre petrol or diesel engine.
